Emergency Preparedness: Points of Dispensing (PODs) Volunteer Application

Plan of Action:
The Town of Chili, in conjunction with the Monroe County Department of Health, is working to create a Public Health Emergency Plan in response to a pandemic or bioterrorism event that may affect our area. It is likely that a Public Health Emergency would require a mass dispensing or oral medications or vaccine to large numbers of people in a very short period of time.

In the event of such an emergency the Town of Chili will activate two POD's (Points of Dispensing) sites. These POD's will be responsible for dispensing oral medications or administering vaccinations to all residents of the Town of Chili within 48 hours. It is estimated that a staff of approximately 400 volunteers, working 12-hour shifts will be needed to man each POD to administer medication to each of Chili's 27,638 residents and guests within the 48 hour period.

You Can Make a Difference!
The Town of Chili is looking for residents willing to donate their time and skills during such an emergency. Training will be provided. Helpful skills are: medical, mental health, security, traffic control, food service, clerical and teaching.

In the event that Monroe County Department of Health activates the POD system, the public would be notified via the EBS (Emergency Broadcast System). Residents will then be directed to the location of the POD site for their area. It is important for people to be aware of their POD location and the time they should arrive and other pertinent information to help avoid overwhelming the system.

Once people arrive at the POD site they will be required to register and provide a brief medical background including current medications and allergies. After completing the registration, individuals will be screened and provided with the appropriate medications.
