The Chili Assessor's Office maintains an inventory of all parcels in the Town of Chili in order to establish an assessed value for the equitable distribution of property taxes. According to RPTL(Real Property Tax Law), all properties are to be valued at the same uniform percentage. The Town of Chili maintains assessments at 100% of market value in accordance with the guideline set by New York State. The assessment office is also responsible for maintaining and approving real property tax exemptions for property owners.
The most common exemption such as star, senior and veterans are listed below. Applications must be on file in the Chili Assessor's office no later than taxable status day March 1, 2011. New resident property owners will automatically receive a Star application in the mail within six weeks of a property transfer. It is the property owner's responsibility to check with the Assessor's Office to see if additional exemptions are available. Exemption applications are available HERE or by accessing the New York State Office of Real Property Services web site: www.orps.state.ny.us. School Tax Relief (Star) Exemption Form # RP-425
Also known as the Basic Star is available to a resident owner. The exemption amount is a maximum of $30,000 reduction in assessed value. The reduction applies to school taxes only. The savings is based on the school tax rate which varies from each school district in Monroe County. Proof of residency is required.
Example: $30,000 x 22.220596/$1,000=$666.62 savings
Enhanced Star is available to a resident owner. The owner of property must be 65 years of age by December 31, 2011. The income limit is $79,050. See application for details. The savings is based on the school tax rate which varies for each school district in Monroe County. Proof of residency and income is required.
Example: $60,100 x 22.220596/$1,000=$1335.46.
Senior Citizens and Enhanced Star Form # RP-458-a
Available to resident owners of property. Applicant must be 65 years of age by December 31, 2011. The maximum income limit is currently $37,400. The senior citizen exemption limit varies with school districts. The exemption applies to town, county, and school district taxes. This exemption automatically includes the Enhanced Star exemption amount as listed above.
Alternative Veterans Exemption Form # RP-458-a
Available to qualified residential real property owned by veterans or a married spouse. A veteran must have served during a defined period of war. See instructions for periods of war. This exemption applies to a reduction in town and county taxes.
Cold War Veterans Exemption Form # RP-458-b
Available to qualified residential real property owned by veterans. A veteran must have served during a defined period of war 9/2/45 - 12/26/91. See instructions for additional information. County taxes only.
Service connected disability Exemption Form # RP-458a-Dis
Available to veterans with a certified disability rating Form # RP-458b-Dis
Persons with Disablities and Limited Income Form # RP-459-c
Available to resident owners of property who meet certain documented evidence of their disability and meet income requirements. See instructions for further details. income limit is $37,400.

Assessment Cycle
July - March: Inspection of all new construction, permits, remodeling, demolition, and land subdivisions occurring after March 1st of prior year
January - March: Informal reviews with property owners.
March 1st: Taxable status date is the date all exemptions must be filed. Status of property conditions.
May 1st: Tentative Assessment Roll is filed. Available for public inspection. Assessment change notices are mailed.
Fourth Tuesday in May: The Board of Assessment Review meets to hear assessment complaints.
July 1st: Final Assessment Roll. Assessments are used to determine property taxes for September school bills and following January town and county tax bill. July 1st is also valuation date of the previous year.
