
The New York State Department of Transportation is improving the corner of Chili Avenue and Union Street, with work scheduled to begin April 2025. Proposed improvements include:
- Reconstruct the existing intersection to provide dedicated turn lanes on Chili Avenue and Union Street.
- Install 5-foot wide shoulders and bicycle lanes at approaches with right-turn lanes within the project limits to better accommodate bicycles and pedestrians.
- Install sidewalk on the North side of Chili Avenue between Stenwick Drive and Creekview Drive.
- Install a new traffic signal, signs, provide new curb ramps on all corners, new crosswalks at the intersection, and update pavement markings.
- Install new closed drainage system.
- Reconstruct water mains currently located within the intersection.
Work Zone Traffic Control:
- To complete the reconstruction work, NYS Rte. 259 between I-490 & NYS Rte. 33A will be closed to traffic for up 10 weeks. In addition, NYS Rte. 33A Eastbound will also be closed at the same time.
- Closures to occur between June 25, 2025, and August 28, 2025.
- Offsite detours will be posted utilizing, NYS Rte. 33A, NYS Rte. 204, and I-490.
- NYS Rte. 33A Westbound and Union Street, south of the NYS Rte. 33A & 259 Intersection, will remain open to traffic during the road closure.
- During other phases of the project, all traffic will be maintained with daily shifts and flagging operations.
- Access to all properties within the project limits will be maintained throughout construction.
- Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout construction.
