Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Monroe County’s Department of Environmental Services and the Towns of Chili, Gates, Riga and Wheatland and the Villages of Churchville and Scottsville have partnered to hold an appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection at the Town of Chili Highway Garage, 200 Beaver Road, on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 7:45am to 12:00pm.

Most HHW (paint, flammables, cleaners and other chemicals from home-use) is safe when used and stored properly. When they become unwanted and are disposed of improperly, these household wastes can become environmental hazards.

To ensure safety and reduce waiting times, appointments are required at all HHW collections. Appointments for this HHW collection will be accepted until Friday, April 29th. To schedule an appointment go on-line to http://www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark. This HHW collection is open to all Monroe County residents. Waste from businesses will not be accepted.

Up to 30 gallons of the following materials will be accepted per appointment at no charge:

  • Oil-based & latex paint (for 1/3 gallon or less of latex paint: discard lid, add kitty litter, let dry, place in trash can)
  • Wood stain & preservatives
  • Automotive fluids (antifreeze; brake, power steering and transmission fluids)
  • Pesticides & fertilizers
  • Flammable products (gasoline, kerosene, thinners, strippers, solvents)
  • Household cleaners (liquid soaps & waxes, drain cleaners, etc.)
  • Driveway sealer
  • Pool & photo chemicals
  • Rechargeable (Ni-Cad) & button batteries
  • Mercury (thermometers, thermostats)
  • Syringes / sharps (safely packaged)

Do Not Bring: used motor oil & vehicle batteries (contact service station or retailer); Pharmaceutical wastes, propane cylinders (ecopark only), cans with dried paint (if it rattles when shaken – remove lid and place in trash); empty containers (trash or recycle); everyday alkaline batteries (trash); glazing / spackle & joint compounds (trash).

COVID TEST KIT DISTRIBUTION

The Town of Chili will be distributing COVID Home Self-Test kits on Monday March 28, 2022 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm; this will be a drive through distribution located at the Town of Chili Highway Department, 200 Beaver Road, Churchville, NY 14428. Kits will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Each box contains 2 test kits.

The event is open to Monroe County residents and no pre-registration is required.

Residents unable to make the event or needing additional test kids are encouraged to take advantage of the federal government’s program, which sends four free COVID-19 tests to every home. The Town of Chili will be distributing COVID Home Self Test kits on Saturday December 11th from Noon to 3pm in the lobby of the new Community Center 3237 Chili Ave. Kits are available to Chili residents only, proof of residency will be required. Road Closure: Reed Road

Rochester Southern Railroad intends to close Reed Road at the railroad crossing for repairs.

Date of Closure: November 11, 2021 from 7am to 7pm

Note: The road will remain ope to local traffic only up to the railroad crossing.

Road Closure – Beahan Road

Monroe County will close a section of highway in the Town of Chili known as Beahan Road, between Fisher Road and Ruth Ellen Way.

It is necessary to close that portion of highway effective October 16, 2021 at 7:00AM for approximately four (4) days for emergency railroad crossing repairs. Under the provisions of the Highway Law, the work cannot be properly conducted and completed unless the portion described be closed during the time such work is in progress.

DETOUR: Paul Road, Jetview Drive, and Chili Avenue (NYS Rte 33A). The road will remain open to local traffic only up to the railroad tracks.

Archer Rd. Park- Public Meeting October 27th.

Come join us for a review and public input meeting for the concept plans for a new Town Park on Archer Rd. The meeting will be an open house type, where you can view the concept plans and provide input. The meeting will be open from 5pm – 8pm on Wednesday October 27th. and held at the new Community Center (3237 Chili Ave)

Road Closure: King Road

Monroe County Department of Transportation intends to close a section of highway in the Town of Chili, known as King Road, between Paul Road and Roberto Drive for railroad crossing repairs.

Date of Closure: October 18, 2021 at 9am for approximately 1 week.

Detour: Union Street (NYS Rte 259), Chili Avenue (NYS Rte 33A), Chestnut Ridge Road and Paul Road

Notes: The road will remain open to local traffic only up to the railroad tracks.

2021 Library Strategic Planning Survey

The Chili Public Library is conducting a survey to help plan for the future. Your ideas and input will be used to improve upon the Library’s collection, programs, and services. The survey should take between 5-10 minutes and ends on Thursday, September 30, 2021.
